LOS ANGELES — In a surprise ruling, a federal judge in Los Angeles said he intended to grant 20th Century Fox’s claim that it owns a copyright interest in the “Watchmen,” a movie shot by Warner Brothers and Legendary Pictures and set for release in March.

There's got to be some kind of settlement. Fox gains nothing by killing the project outright, except the ire of fanboys for decades to come because they will have denied us the chance to finally see "Watchmen" on the big screen. Given that we're in the Internet Age, the same geeks who have been devouring every online tidbit will certainly know it was Fox that killed "Watchmen" and will never forgive them for it.

WB has too much money invested in keeping this release moving forward to give up now. Fox is looking for a payout. The suit is clearly opportunistic, but does that make it illegal?

fox is an opportunistic, money grubbing, douche bag of a company.

warner has to settle with a payout because they know this film is worth millions. they have to recoup what they have spent by releasing it to the rabid fans.

having dealt with higher-ups at fox on a couple of other productions over the last two years, i despise that company. they are slime.

All of which would support the view that Fox is being an opportunistic, money grubbing, douche bag of a company with the "Watchmen" suit.

I'd love to find out if that opportunistic element is something that could work against Fox.
