the "in case of kidnapping and stuffed in a trunk" release, does indeed work.

however please note, upon said trunk opening due to the release being pulled while car is in motion, an alarm will sound, alerting the kidnapper driving the vehicle that you are about to leap out of the trunk to try to make a getaway.

good to know release does work should i ever be stuffed into the trunk of my car. also good to know to wait for car to stop moving before pulling release and making my getaway so the alarm doesn't go off.

i had gone to lowe's and bought a few items. i placed the plastic bags into the trunk. evidently one of the handles from a bag managed to get caught around the release when i closed the trunk.

as i left the parking lot and entered onto the road, the bag must of shifted, and pulled the latch. i heard a pop, followed by the alarm going off. it continued to sound as i tried to find a safe place to pull over and park.

hence, wait for car to be stopped/parked before pulling release and attempting to escape. otherwise the driver of the car is going to know immediately you are trying to get out of the trunk. ;)

I'm quite relieved to hear this explanation for why you know this about your car. The alternatives sounded... less than happy.

Far be it from me to criticize a good nitpick, but wouldn't it be pretty obvious to said kidnapper that the trunk was open in short order anyway?

depends. although the trunk was unlatched, the lid remained down. it was the sound of the alarm and the lovely red light flashing intermittently on the dashboard that alerted me to there being a problem.

yes, if i were to open trunk lid fully and driver is paying attention, it would be seen in the rearview mirror.

if, however, i wait until car is parked. listen for sound of kidnapper exiting the vehicle and walking away, then i would make my escape.

Heh. I just was thinking of a kidnapper trying to do that to me, but then that'd be a pretty stupid kidnapper given I have a hatchback. ;-)
